Hawera Operational Support

Hawera Operational Support Unit was formed on April 24th, 1954 (as Fire Police). The unit started with 20 members, they were issued with white dust coats and old steel helmets - ex army, painted white with "Fire Police" painted in red.
The Operational Support Unit covers all of the Hawera area including Ohawe, Normanby and Fonterra - the largest dairy factory in the southern hemisphere. Duties include traffic and crowd control, salvage and external fire fighter duties, hose running, ladders, BA contol, etc.
