Wellington Operational Support Unit

The Wellington Operational Support Unit are the only volunteers operating in the Central and Southern parts of Wellington, with a history dating back to 1899 as the Wellington Volunteer Fire Police. As well as assisting fire crews with a variety of operational support duties at major events, it is also a specialist salvage unit, equipped with pumps and aquavacs to help remove bulk water and minimise damage from flooding and firefighting activities.
Responding from Kilbirnie Fire Station (or direct to the scene), the unit's members routinely attend greater alarm incidents, or requests for support with duties such as traffic control or salvage, to locations as far north as Pukerua Bay, west to the Makara coast and to the North East to Korokoro.
