Waipu Operational Support

The Waipu Operational Support unit have been supporting the brigade for the past 35 years. They cover State Highway 1 from about 6 km north of Waipu to the top of the Brynderwyns, which is about 18 km south of Waipu. The unit is regularly called out to a number of MVA's along this stretch of road, but with the installation of passing lanes and other improvements to the highway, this number has dropped.
They also backup Ruakaka brigade to calls at the NZ Oil refinery and to the LVL Timber plant at Marsden Point, as well as to the Fontera Dairy Factory in Maungatroto. Currently the Waipu Operational Support unit average about 80 calls per year.
